Around Shea is a local publication about this part of the Valley and the people who actually live here.

Phoenix neighborhood street with desert mountains in the background.

That sounds simple. We think it should be.

We want to make the kind of local stuff we would actually want to read:

  • Stories that explain what's changing around you

  • Introduce you to places and people worth knowing

  • Discover the history behind a familiar place

  • Get a useful idea that makes life around here a little easier

  • Simply give you something interesting to talk about

We're not trying to be the evening news or neighborhood watch.

If you hear a loud bang at 11:30 tonight, don't expect an email from us five minutes later confirming the sound.

That's not really what we're here for.

If the loud bang actually matters, our job is to figure out what happened, verify it and tell you something useful.

We don't have to tell you everything happening in Phoenix. Just what matters around this part of the Valley.

AROUND SHEA ASKS

And yes, we're going to have some fun with it.

Not everything around here needs a city council agenda.

We might help you figure out what to do with the kids this weekend without spending hundreds. We might tell you where to eat when someone inevitably says, “You pick the restaurant.” We might investigate the closed location you've been wondering about every time you drive past it.

Around Shea should be useful without feeling like you're doing the homework.

This is what we're building.

Around Shea isn't meant to be another feed of announcements, press releases and things you could have found with a five-minute Google search.

Starting twice a week, we'll bring you something from this part of the Valley that earns your attention and gives you something worth taking with you.
